Dr. Ioanna Tzartzani – Sociologist

Ioanna Tzartzani studied Sociology at Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences and Classical and Contemporary Dance at the Despoina Grigoriadou Higher School of Dance, and completed her master’s and doctoral studies in dance at the University of Surrey. Her research interests include bodily and choreographic practices, the history and theory of dance, critical and postcolonial theory, and cultural studies, while maintaining a long-standing interest in issues related to identity politics. Since 2008, she has taught Somatics, Kinesiology, History of Dance, and Critical Theory, as well as Contemporary Choreographic Theory and Practice in the Department of Theater Studies at the University of the Peloponnese, at AKMI Metropolitan College, and at the Despoina Grigoriadou and CHOROS Higher Schools of Dance. She was a member of Prof. Ana Sanchez Colberg’s Theatre en Corps Collectif group, as well as a member of the Ministry of Culture’s Dance Advisory Committee (2019–2022).

She has participated in the following research projects: a/. Erasmus+ ReWrite your Story /ReStory (2020–2022), which aims to develop model educational materials for caregivers working with older adults, using targeted narrative techniques and artistic practices that facilitate the (re)activation and social reintegration of older adults. b/ “Addressing Roma School Segregation through Performing Arts” (March 31 to October 23, 2023). – Departments of Theater Studies and Performing and Digital Arts, School of Fine Arts, University of the Peloponnese, in collaboration with the Department of Roma and Travellers of the Council of Europe / Roma and Travellers, Council of Europe (Educator/Researcher). c/ “Thymeli: A Dynamic Open-Access Multimedia Dictionary for the Performing Arts,” which was approved for funding by ELIDEK under Sub-Action 2 of the Call “Funding for Basic Research (Horizontal Support for All Sciences), National Recovery and Resilience Plan (Greece 2.0).”
